These swords are SHARP and are made of tempered steel.
The activities of partner training with or without sword-to-sword contact, Tameshigiri (test cutting), Matogiri (target cutting) or other similar activities are dangerous and the purchaser accepts all liability for any injury including death and/or damage to property resulting from these activities.

The Practical Katana gives the martial artist the opportunity to own and use a Hanwei blade at the cost of an economy sword. The blade is forged and differentially tempered, using the same process as the more expensive blades and producing an RC60 edge and RC40 back. The temper line is authentic and prominent. The Mark 2 version features an antique finish to Tsuba, Fuchi and Kashira with leather bound handle. They are strongly built to withstand the rigours of cutting exercises. Wakizashi sold seperately.

The Practical Plus Katana provides a very economical cutting sword using more traditional fittings and construction. The blade is forged and differentially tempered, producing an RC60 edge and RC40 back. The Hamon (temper line) is prominent. It features genuine Same (Ray Skin) on the handle. The long tang is double pegged for security, the fittings are all finished in an antique style Japanese Dogwood motif with Dragon Menuki, an iron "sunburst" design Tsuba (guard) and fitted with a brass Habaki. Wakizashi sold seperately.

The Practical Pro Katana has an extended tsuka and a thicker and longer blade. The blades are constructed from hand-forged, high-carbon steel and are differentially tempered using a traditional claying method. The Practical Pro has a fine polish to it compared to others in the series. The tsuka is wrapped with synthetic black leather for its gripping characteristics and is double-pegged for safety. The saya is done in a deep black lacquer with a black Japanese cotton sageo. The fittings (koshirae) are done in antiqued black iron. The katana is styled with a round Kuruma tsuba. For those interested in an economical katana that can stand the rigors of heavy cutting (tameshigiri), the Practical Pro is an excellent choice.

The Shinto Katana and matching Shinto Wakizashi is the corner stone of our Hanwei line of Samurai weapons. They are mounted in black with bronze fittings. The Tsuba is meticulously crafted in the image of a dragon, with true back-and-front detail. The handles are constructed in genuine ray-skin covered wood and wrapped in a Japanese cotton Tsukaito (grip wrap) in the traditional pattern. The Menuki, Fuchi and Kashira are all in a traditional theme. The deeply lacquered wood scabbards have authentic polished buffalo horn fittings, a proctective bag and traditional maintenance kit are included. Wakizashi sold seperately.

Miyamoto Musashi, arguably the most famous swordmaster in Japanese history, fought more than 60 duels before retiring and writing his famous treatise on swordplay, the "Book of Five Rings." Musashi was well above average height and his Daito (long sword) was made to match his size. Development of the two-sword style of swordplay, with the Daito and Wakizashi being used together, is credited to Musashi. Fittingly, we are able to offer both pieces with matching mounts. The Hanwei reproduction of the Musashi Daisho is faithful to the original down to the famous double-ring iron tsubas. The grips are finished with a superb leather wrap. The Daito's grip is double pegged to the long tang, both it and the Wakizashi are mounted in black, the scabbards have delicate copper inlays. Truly a masterpiece of the swordmaker's art, the Musashi Daisho is a must for every martial artist and collector. Wakizashi sold seperately.

It has been said that in simplicity lies great beauty, an axiom stunningly validated by the Golden Oriole Katana and Wakizashi by Hanwei. The story told by the stunning tsuba is of a mantis stealthily stalking the cricket, unaware that he is himself being stalked by the Golden Oriole. The deeply lacquered blue of the saya is repeated in the Japanese cotton tsuka-ito, and the Oriole appears again on the kashira. Unmistakably Hanwei quality, the 14" tsuka of the katana gives a superb balance to the sword, allowing it to move very quickly and very freely. The Tsunami Katana is styled with the famous Tomoe motif. The tsuba is made of black iron and symbolizes the Tomoe mon. It has a deep black laquered Saya, while the sword also features a one piece brass habaki, genuine Ray skin Same on the tsuka and the tsuka-ito and sageo are made of premium woven Japanese black cotton. The Wind and Thunder Katana is designed specifically for the martial artist that needs a sword for the demands of rigorous cutting. The Wind and Thunder by Hanwei features a heavier and thicker forged high carbon blade with a long Kisaki and is finished in traditional furniture and fittings.

In Japan the traditional method of serving tea is a celebrated art form in itself. This highly ritualized ceremony is an involved process, the most elaborate of which can last hours and is reserved for the most distinguished of guests. The Tea Culture swords captures the essence of this important tradition. The Katana and Wakizashi are built upon a traditional Shinogi Zukuri style blade with Bo-Hi. The high-carbon blade is hand forged and differentially hardened using the traditional clay method. The Koshirae (furniture) feature the typical elements present in a Japanese tea ceremony. The handle is wrapped with suede leather in a Katati Make (battle wrap) style.

The "Three Wise Monkeys" is a popular symbol of the “See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil” proverb popular in many cultures around the world. The proverb itself is thought to have originated in China and was brought to Japan by a Buddhist monk, while the association with three monkeys appears to be a Japanese play on words. Our Three Monkey Katana is built on traditional Shinogi Zukuri style blades with Bo-Hi to reduce weight and improve balance. The high-carbon blade is hand forged and differentially hardened. The blackened iron Tsuba features the “Three Wise Monkeys” in relief.

The Orchid Katana is as quick as it is beautiful with a relatively light blade of folded K120C and striking koshirae. The hamon is prominent and the hada shows distinct layers. High quality ray skin (same) is used on the tsuka, the tsuka-ito and sageo are woven from premium Japanese cotton. The tsuba is of blackened iron, with an Orchid and Butterfly decoration inlaid in silver, brass and copper. The saya is deeply lacquered in blue with buffalo horn koiguchi and kurikata. The fuchi, kashira and kojiri are of bronzed iron with silver and gold detailing. The habaki is of one-piece brass construction. The blade features a medium-length (chu) kissaki.
