About Kokoro

The symbol pictured to the right is the personal Mon (crest) of Shihan Wayne W. Hanley, it has many meanings and as a student you would be welcome to discuss your interpretations with the Sensei, but for the purpose of our base curriculum here are the two main meanings:

The Physical

Our symbol shows three inner circles representing the three main principles of Kokoro Ryu Martial Arts, Safety, Balance and Control. As shown each must be properly formed and in harmony with each other to support the outer circle, your circle of safety (your Bujutsu skills). Where each of the inner circles overlaps shows the dependence they have on each other and how they must work together, as no single principle can stand on its own. The centre represents the essence (you) from which all radiates and from which all is controlled.

The Metaphysical

Within this meaning the three inner circles represent the Mind, Body and Spirit and as previously stated each must be properly formed and in harmony with each other to support the outer circle, your being.

In this case where each of the inner circles overlaps shows both the dependence and the influence these elements have on each other. Once again the centre represents the essence (the self) from which all radiates and from which all is controlled.
